Can design students help make the design domains more visible?

Design suffers from a lack of recognition because people cannot grasp what it is. What is design? Designers have been debating that question for years but there is no satisfactory answer. Also, it keeps designers‘ potential clients in ignorance. A major step will come when designers are able to make design visible at a glance and show what design can achieve economically and socially. If a drawing is worth a thousand words it must be possible to draw a chart, a map of design outcomes, organised by domain? Could design students make design visible in this way?
