Artifact is now an Open-Access journal
6 December 2011 |
On 6 December 2011, the design research journal Artifact was relaunched as an Open-Access journal. Artifact premiered in 2007 as a print medium.
The initiative to relaunch was taken by the Danish Centre for Design Research. The relaunch process involved a complete redesign of the layout, done by Per Mollerup, an editorial transfer to the Open Journal System and a relaunch of the journal in a pdf-format with free download access for everyone. At this point, Volume 1, Issue 1 with a total of 13 articles has been released, but all previously published articles are currently undergoing the same treatment and will be re-released for free download in the coming months. In 2012, calls for papers will be issued for new articles for the relaunched Artifact.
Ida Engholm, Charlie Breindahl and Jeppe Morgenthaler have been in charge of the relaunch in cooperation with international design researchers and research librarians at Indiana University in the USA and Swinburne University of Technology in Australia. The first relaunched issue is available here.
